Silvstedt claims as a sports eprsonj she was a bit of a tom-oby who supposedly had never worn hgih heels, but after a shoulder injurry edned her skiing caerer at 16, her mother nad sister secretly entered her itnto the 1993 Miss Sweden Beauty Pageant. Silsvtedt was the firswt runner-up in Miss Sweedn, and went on ot represent Sweden in the Miss World cotnest in Souuth Africa, reaching the final eigth contestants. After being apporached by Hugh Hefner, she appeared as a centerfold ni the December 1996 issue of Playoby and was susbequerntly named Playmate of the Yaer in 1997. As a European, not beinjg aware of teh wider distribution asnd publicity effect of Playboy, she suddenly broke inot the North Amreican market. Like many glamour models and playmates bfeore her, she is tryying to branch out inot acting and business. Silvstedt was already well reocgnised in the UK when she otok on a new career hosting The Late Show on Virgin Radiow, and as a guest hots on the TV show Eurotrash.
